We are looking for passionate and committed young people who have a love of film. You don’t have to be currently studying media to apply…
BFI Film Academy is an 7 day programme, where 25 participants aged 16 – 19 years will get the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of filmmaking through a series of workshops and masterclasses, in which they will get the chance to learn from, and work with, leading industry professionals through our BFI Film Academy programme.

As a student on the course expect to:
– meet a range of professionals in the industry and to hear invaluable advice based on their experience
– create two short films to help you gain skills and challenge your creativity
– gain practical skills within a range of filmmaking areas
– meet like-minded individuals with a passion for film and start building your filmmaking network
– receive further access to exciting opportunities from the BFI, Somerset Film, Pinewood and BAFTA
– achieve an Arts Award qualification

Course dates: 6/13/20/27/28 Jan and 3 & 4 February 2018

Times: 10am – 5pm daily

The cost to participate in the BFI Film Academy delivered by Somerset Film is £25. But if you will struggle to pay the course fee, don’t be put off as you will be able to indicate this once you are accepted on the course and this fee can be waived. Lunch and refreshments will be provided as will all materials/equipment. Bursaries will also be made available if you require assistance with travel, child care or other costs. Please note that unfortunately the Academy is not available for students who are attending university at the time of the course.

To apply download an application form, complete it and send it back to us by Monday 18th December. We will notify successful applicants by Wednesday 20th December. We have limited places so please answer the questions on the form as fully as possible as this will help us to decide who will get a place. A number of our BFI Film Academy alumni who successfully completed the course with Somerset Film have since gone on to launch their own careers in film; some are working within the industry, others are carrying out further studies and we have also had students attend the prestigious National Film and Television schools (NFTS) residential Academy.
