Batch Gueye – vocals, sabar drums, dance, Tom Challenger – sax, keys, electronics, Phil Stevenson – guitar, Johnny Brierley – bass, Kaw Secka – vocals, sabar drums and Dave Smith – drums, electronics.
Dave Smith is the UK’s great drums pioneer, as anyone who has heard him playing with JuJu or Robert Plant’s Sensational Space Shifters will know. With Outhouse Ruhabi he explored the Sabar drumming styles of Gambia and Senegal. Fofoulah takes those experiments further, matching African rhythms against anything from rap to dance with a band that includes Sabar and Tama talking-drums exponent Kaw Secka, and chanting African vocals from Batch Gueye. A don’t-miss gig for audiences which young WCS musicians will be joining for one life-changing collaboration.
Tickets: £10 – £17. Free for 25s and under.
