Qpen day – Come and discover how a former limestone quarry is now used for safely testing explosive devices by Alford Technologies. Raffle ticket to blow up a scrap car before midday, with expert Nigel Taylor.
Find out more about the geology, archaeology and wildlife that now inhabits the quarry site, now restored with wildflower meadows and ponds. Children’s fun activities – pebble painting, exploring fossils, making limestone rock, painting with soil paint pigments and more!
Dr Peter Hardy will be on hand to identify fossils and view his collection from the local Mendip Hills. Tours around the quarry with Nigel and Peter.
Parking on site, refreshments all day, bring picnics and sturdy footwear for the tours. Tickets for raffle £2.50 on door.
