Celebrate the harvest in the beautiful ancient grounds of Forde Abbey
near Chard with host Toby Buckland and an array of expert speakers
including Guardian writer Alys Fowler, Matt Biggs from Radio 4’s
Gardeners’ Question Times and actor and keen gardener John Challis of
Only Fools & Horses fame.
There’s plenty of fun for families with the Blue Peter gardener Lee
Connelly on hand to inform and entertain, circus skills workshops, apple
pressing (you can bring your own apples to press) and paper flower
The two-day programme of free talks includes talks in Forde’s stunning
Great Hall as well as harvest demo’s in the tipi on the Upper Lawn on
growing your own cut flowers, meadow-making, fermenting vegetables and
wheat wreath-making or take a tour of Forde’s rare trees or try some
tasters in the walled kitchen garden, full of dahlias, pumpkins and
crops at this time of year.
Enjoy some shopping from more than 150 exhibitors including plant
nurseries, selling late-summer colour, veg and seeds, artisan crafts for
indoor and out and local delicious food producers.
Learn a new skill or just spend the day relaxing, enjoying a glass cider
on a straw bale, with live music and loads of family entertainment to
welcome in the autumn.
